With years of experience in ultra-distance cycling, I founded Boundary to help cyclists of all abilities achieve their best on long days out on the bike and to prepare riders for the realities that go far beyond fitness alone.
Having been coached myself for many years, I know that training consistency and hard work get rewarded. But I’ve also learned the hard lessons that only long, multi-day rides teach: riding through the night when your world narrows to the beam of a head torch, standing in quiet roadside garages searching for real food, managing pacing mistakes that can take hours or days to undo, and discovering what sleep debt does to decision-making when the miles start to stack up and the lights fade.
In my coaching, I draw on this experience alongside data-driven research to guide riders through the full spectrum of ultra-distance challenges: fitness, nutrition, hydration, pacing, logistics, and mental resilience so they can ride further, smarter, and stronger.
My coaching philosophy has evolved over my own ultra-distance events and from coaching riders to their goals. I've learned that success in ultra-riding isn't about having the highest FTP or following the perfect plan. It's about systematic preparation that gives you unshakeable confidence when the miles stack up and things get hard. I help riders develop tested systems, practiced strategies, and proven pacing discipline so you arrive at the start line knowing, not hoping, you're ready. The strongest finishes don't come from chasing marginal gains; they come from riders who've prepared for what can go wrong, practiced their solutions, and built the mental resilience to adapt when plans meet reality. That's what separates finishing strong from just surviving.
6+ years experience participating in ultra-distance, self-supported cycling events.
As a UESCA-certified ultra endurance cycling coach, I use scientific techniques to deliver measurable results balanced with real-world endurance experience. Every plan is personalised and adaptable, preparing you not just for performance peaks but for the resilience and self-sufficiency ultra riding demands.
If that sounds like a good fit with your objectives, whether your goal is a 200 km audax, a gran fondo, a multi-day tour, or your first ultra ride, get in touch and we’ll discuss how to get you there safely, effectively, and with confidence.

Performance isn't always about building the biggest engine. It’s about building the most resilient one. Boundary coaching is not a monthly template exercise. It’s an ongoing conversation as your fitness and circumstances change.
You don't need a goal event to start — many riders come to Boundary simply to ride stronger and more consistently. Not sure which package suits you? Send a message and we'll figure it out together.

When I started working with Nick at Boundary, I wanted a structured approach to prepare for the Maratona dles Dolomites and to improve as a cyclist overall. What made the biggest difference was having a clear, personalised plan that fitted around work and life, but still pushed me consistently in the right way. The training gave real purpose to every session and I could genuinely feel my fitness, strength and confidence on the bike improving month by month. Nick was always thoughtful, encouraging and responsive, especially when adapting training around setbacks and recovery.
Unfortunately, my Maratona this year was cut short after an accident. Even through that, the support and communication from Nick have been excellent, and I'm looking forward to working with him again once I'm fully recovered and able to train properly. Although the event itself didn't go to plan, the progress I made and the structure the coaching provided were hugely valuable. I'd absolutely recommend Boundary to anyone looking for intelligent, personalised coaching and long-term improvement.
— Michael S.I hadn't embarked on anything like this before. Chase the Sun South was 330km and about 14 hours in the saddle. Far longer than I'd ever cycled before. Nick helped me with every aspect of this ride. A structured training plan to make sure I completed, advice on hydration and nutrition and guidance on how to cope mentally with that long a ride. It wasn't easy, but Nick gave me the fitness and confidence boost to make sure I arrived in Weston-super-Mare tired but smiling.
I would highly recommend Nick as a coach! I began training with Nick in early summer 2024, when he set me a training programme that over the following 6 months massively improved my performance, confidence and enjoyment on the bike.
— David R.The training sessions he designed for me were structured really well and they balanced the time I had available to train, alongside other life commitments. The sessions helped me achieve considerable improvements to my FTP and VO2Max, that boosted my enjoyment. He also included my local club rides in the programme, which was an important thing for me as I still wanted to enjoy the social aspect of cycling.
It was a pleasure to work with Nick: very communicative, understanding of the time pressures I faced and his wisdom and experience were so reassuring, particularly when we did some of the more challenging phases of training.
Whether you have a goal in mind, or just wish to improve your strength and performance, Nick would be a great coach to help you to achieve this.
